I’m a Certified Master Groomer.. I went to school to learn how to groom cats. 

Why have your cat groomed you ask? Well a long haired cat can get a small tangle that quickly turns into a mat, a mat can turn into a bigger mat and finally a pelt that covers kitties entire body  and it’s painful. If a mat is under your cats armpit for example it can be really, really painful. And guess what? A short haired cat can get them too.  

Remember when your mom combed out your hair when you were a little girl? When you had a knot or a tangle you would cringe and whine and cry. Now imagine that you are small and have four legs, and can’t speak…

Pet Grooming Does Not Require ANY State Licenses

Did you know Pet Grooming does not require any state or boards licenses to hold groomers to any set of standards licenses? There are not any standards like there is in cosmetology, so knowledge and experience can vary drastically. Questions you need to ask your groomer. How long have you been in business? How were you trained? Did you complete any schooling? How do you clean your equipment? Do you prefer to groom cats or dogs? What products do you use one my pet?

Groomers See Pet More Often Than Vet

Usually a groomer will see our pets more often that their veterinarians.  Groomers are the “eye in the field”.  Who else sees every inch of our pet’s body?  The groomer certainly does.  When bathing, blow drying, shaving, combing and handling cats, they see all there is to see. When a customer is regular with their grooming appointments (every 6 weeks) any changes in a pet’s skin, coat, weight, behavior becomes very obvious to the groomer.

When you have a Certified Master Groomer, they have had to take more test, and have the highest education possible to achieve a Masters in Cat or Dog Grooming. They can’t diagnose a pet medical problem.  To be a groomer, you are not required to take any test. You are a product of their teacher. Only a brave groomer would allow you to watch you groom their pet from start to finish! Keep that in mind if you ask to watch. They may say , “that is against our policy”,” due to insurance reasons, you can’t be in my van or in the area when the animals are being groomed.”  Watch your pet being groomed, really watch. How is your pet really being treated while away from your sight?

Cat Missing After 5 Years, Found in Manhatten

Calico named Willow, who disappeared from a home near the rocky Mountains five year so, was found Wednesday on a Manhattan street and will soon be returned to a family in which two of the three kids and one of the two days may remember her?

Wonder if she took the subway system? How did she get there?, nearly 1,800 miles away from her home in Colorado?

Thanks to a microchip implanted when she was a kitten, Will will be reunited in Colorado with her owners, who had long ago given up.

“To be honest, there are tones of coyotes around here, and owls, “said Jamie Squires, of boulder. “She was just a little thing, five and a half pounds.  We put out the “Lost Cat’s poster and Craigslist thing, but we actually thought she’d been eaten by coyotes.”

Squired and her husband, Chris, were “shocked and astounded” when they got a call Wednesday from Animal Care & Control, which runs New York city’s animal rescue and shelter system. Will had been found on East 20th Street by a man who took her to a shelter. “My husband said, “Don’t say anything to the kids yet.  We have to make sure, “Squires said, “But then we saw the picture, and it was Willow.  It’s been so long.”ACC Executive Director Julie Bank said a scanner found the microship that led to the Squires family. “All our pets are microchipped, “Squires said, “If I could michrochip my kids, I would.”

The childrend are 17, 10 and 3 years old, so the older two remember willow, Squires said. As for the 3 year old, “She saw the photo and said, “She’s a pretty cat.”

The Russian Blue

Appearance: is one of a handful of breeds that comes in only one color. Its distinctive blue.  The breed’s fur features a soft undercoat covered by stiff guard hairs, The guard hairs are longer, with the very tips silver, just beautiful! That tipping is what gives the breed its unique shimmer.  I liken it to the way that velvet catches the light.  Emerald green eyes framed by high cheekbones set off the cat’s sil-blue coat.  A graceful, muscular body with long, fine-boned legs competes the Russian Blue’s elegant look.

Grooming: use a Greyhoud Comb wash every six weeks to keep down the shedding durning the hot months.

Symptoms of Cat Worms

Having worms is not fun for your cat. Symptoms can be extreme, such as chronic diarrhea and less obvious, such as lethargy.  The following is a list of types of worms common to cats.

Roundworms, Hookworms, Tapeworms, Hearthworms, Stomach Worms

Treatment of Worms in a cat should be done under the direction of a veterinarian. While over-the-counter worm medications may work, they can also cause additional stomach distress for your pet, and they may not kill the pests completely.  Seek the advice of a veterinarian before beginning and de-worming program for the safety and health of your pet.
