Contest for Broward County Animal Shelter

You can vote once a day every day until April 16!! The 2012 ASPCA Rachael Ray $100K Challenge is a nationwide competition for animal shelters (and their communities) aimed at getting more animals adopted or returned to their owners than ever before. The first phase is the Qualifying Heat where registered shelters compete to accumulate the most online votes from their supporters. The 50 shelters with the most votes become the official contestants for the 2012 ASPCA Rachael Ray $100K Challenge. So please support our effort to save lives! SPECIAL NOTE: The ASPCA has worked out some technical difficulties and advises that if you receive a “sorry, you already voted today” message, please try voting later in the day – after the time that you voted yesterday.

We will be Closed Easter Sunday. In observance of the holiday, our Fort Lauderdale Adoption Center will be closed this Sunday, April 8. We will open on Tuesday, April 10, at 11 a.m. at both our Fort Lauderdale and Pompano Beach shelters.

No-Kill Initiative Approved. On Tuesday, the Board of County Commissioners affirmed their goal to one day operate a no-kill animal shelter. The commissioners unanimously passed a resolution that requires Broward County to develop and implement a financially feasible No-Kill Strategic Plan incorporating programs and services utilized in successful no-kill communities across the nation. The plan will include a number of programs and services consistent with the No-Kill Equation, which includes comprehensive on- and off-site adoption programs, affordable spay/neuter programs, large scale foster care programs, medical and behavioral programs, pet retention and redemption services, rescue transfer programs and volunteer programs.

March Madness Winner Announced. Congratulations to N. Agramonte of Deerfield Beach who is the big winner of a $100 Pet Supermarket gift certificate as part of our March Madness promotion. Agramonte and her family adopted a puppy named Mushu and are totally excited about their newest family member. Congratulations!!

Make a Difference Today. Now it’s even easier to make a donation to help support the homeless pets of Broward County Animal Care. Contributions can now be made as a one-time donation or can be scheduled to be made each month. In addition, donations can now be directed to specific funds, such as the No-Kill Initiative, Medical Development, Shelter Enhancement, Spay/Neuter Programs, Public Education, or General Animal Welfare.
