Living With Cats in Your Neighorhood

What is a feral cat? Feral cats are members of the domestic cat species, but have not been socialized where they were kittens with humans, therefore are not adoptable.  Cats have been living outdoors near humans for more than 10,000 years. They typically live in groups called feral colonies and have strong social bonds with their colony members.  Which does not make  a purrfect match for adoption.

Like all animals, feral cats make their home where they find shelter and food. Many times close proximity to humans.  We understand that not everyone enjoys having cats in their yards, and these simple suggestions will help you divert outdoor cats away from certain areas.  You may also want the cats to stick around.  When you don’t have feral cats around, you will find fruit rats and other types of rates running around fences and powerlines. I personally rather have feral cats in my neighorhood than rats any day.
