I’m a Certified Master Cat Groomer from NCGIA.. I went to school to learn how to groom cats.

Why have your cat groomed you ask? Well a long haired cat can get a small tangle that quickly turns into a mat, a mat can turn into a bigger mat and finally a pelt that covers kitties entire body  and it’s painful. If a mat is under your cats armpit for example it can be really, really painful. And guess what? A short haired cat can get them too.

Remember when your mom combed out your hair when you were a little girl? When you had a knot or a tangle you would cringe and whine and cry. Now imagine that you are small and have four legs, and can’t speak…

She comes in for grooming every six to eight weeks. She loves to be clean and beautiful and she knows it. The first is the after and the two are before.

Hurrican Season

Wellness Clinic Cancelled. Please note, the Wellness Clinic scheduled for Saturday, May 5, in Hollywood has been cancelled due to a scheduling conflict. The event will be rescheduled for a later date. We are sorry for any inconvenience this may cause, but stay tuned for more details.

Snag the Tag! With hurricane season upon us, now is the time to prepare your pet by making sure he has his Pet Registration Tag. The red, heart-shaped tag on a secure collar is your pet’s ticket home. If your dog or cat becomes lost, he is ten times more likely to be returned to you with the tag around his neck. In addition, the tag:

  • Confirms ownership. Your Broward County pet registration helps identify you as the owner.
  • Ensures a happy reunion. Unregistered lost pets often never return home since their owners cannot be contacted. Usually, they end up being adopted by someone else.
  • It’s the law! Both Florida Statute 828.30 and Broward County ordinances 4-10 and 4-11 require your dog or cat be vaccinated against rabies and registered.

For more information about pet registration, as well as a list of veterinary offices and locales where you can purchase the tag, visit our website at broward.org/animal.

Bottle Feeders Still Urgently Needed! Kitten season, from May to September, is almost here and it is during this time of year that we see a big increase in the number of young kittens that come into our Adoption Centers. Many of these kittens are orphaned and, therefore, must be bottle fed by a loving and caring Foster Parent in order to survive. Very young kittens must be bottle fed within hours of arriving at our shelter, so a strong team of bottle feeders is essential for their survival and growth. Foster Parent applicants should be able to have the time to bottle feed every few hours day and night. To register to provide foster care, please contact our Foster Coordinator, at 954-359-1313 ext. 9272.

Cats under Anesthesia

Just wanted to share with you a few thoughts about cats under Anesthesia. First of all your veterinarian needs to examine your kitty and have blood work done before your kitty is put under anesthesia.  Veterianarians want only the best for your beloved kitty. Many veterinarians use equipment that monitors heart and respiratory rates during surgery to ensure that their patients are doing well under anesthesia. Many times when a cat gets to a certain age, veterinarians many feel it is too risky and decline to put your cat under anesthesia. Only your veterinarian can answer your questions regarding anesthesia.
