Hurricane Season and Your Pet

Are you Ready for Hurricane Season? Now is the time to start preparing for the start of hurricane season. This means not only planning for your home and family, but also your pet. As part of your plans, one of the most important steps you must take is to ensure that your pet is up-to-date with his or her rabies vaccination and Broward County Pet Registration. If your pet already has received a current rabies vaccination, then make sure that he or she is outfitted with a sturdy collar with a current Pet Registration Tag attached to it. The collar and pet tag are vital because if your pet becomes lost, the Registration Tag is one of the best ways to ensure you are reunited with your pet – either through Broward County Animal Care or by a fellow resident who may find your dog or cat after the storm has passed. Pet Registration Tags are easy to obtain and are available:

SPECIAL EDITION
Pet Registration Tags-Easier to get than ever!
There is good news for the growing number of pets’ owners living in Broward County. Animal Care and Adoption is making it easier than ever to obtain a registration tag for dogs and cats, regardless if your pet spends time outside or is strictly kept indoors.

All dogs and cats within the County are required to have current registration tags by the age of four months and renewed annually, even if the animal is already identified by a microchip and/or tattoo.

Residents can now purchase new pet registration tags or renew existing tags via these methods:

In order to obtain a pet registration tag, your dog or cat must have proof of a current rabies vaccination, usually in the form of a rabies certification that was issued by a licensed veterinarian. Typically, responsible pet owners choose the convenience of purchasing the required registration tag at the time their pets receive their annual health check-up and rabies vaccination. All veterinarians providing services to Broward County pets are encouraged to participate as providers of the pet registration tags in order to extend the convenience to their clients.

The network of providers share vital registration information directly with Broward County Animal Care and Adoption, which is maintained in a centralized database. Access to the database information has been the key to successfully reuniting lost pets displaying current registration tags with their owners. Any owner wanting to verify the current status of a pet’s registration, may access the Pet Database at broward.org/animal, complete the search by entering the pet registration tag number and then clicking RECORD UPDATE. Pet owners can also contact Broward County Animal Care and Adoption at 954-359-1313 and verify or update records over the phone.

Broward Animal Control January 25, 2012

As Seen on TV!Mark your calendars for January 25 as our adoptable dogs and cats debut on Comcast’s “Pets on Demand” program. A number of our pets will be featured during the show, which will run through February 10. Stay tuned for more updates on upcoming broadcasts.

Register Your Pet!2012 pet registration tags are now available. The red, heart-shaped tag on a secure collar is your pet’s ticket home. If your dog or cat becomes lost, he is ten times more likely to be returned to you with the tag around his neck. In addition, the tag:

  • Confirms ownership. Your Broward County pet registration helps identify you as the owner.
  • Can save your pet’s life! Unregistered lost pets often never return home since their owners cannot be contacted. They either are adopted by someone else or euthanized.
  • It’s the law! Both Florida Statute 828.30 and Broward County ordinances 4-10 and 4-11 require that your dog or cat be vaccinated against rabies and registered.
