Please Donate to Broward Animal Control

We Still Need Newspapers!Donating your newspapers is the perfect way to recycle them and help our homeless pets at the same time. We use the papers every day in our cat kennels as well as well as in our Clinic. So, if you have a stack of papers taking up space in your home or business, please consider donating them to us. Papers can be dropped off at our Fort Lauderdale Adoption Center at 1870 S.W. 39 St., or at the Pompano Beach Adoption Center, 3100 N.W. 19 Terrace. For more information call 954-359-1010.

Prepare Your Hurricane Supplies Now!As you make your hurricane plans for your family this season, remember to plan for your pet, too. Preparing a Pet Survival Kit is key to ensuring that you have enough food and important pet information on hand in case you lose power or must evacuate. The kit/container should be waterproof with a secure plastic lid and include the following:

  • A crate or carrier large enough for your pet to stand and turn around (use a treat or toy to help pets adjust to the carrier beforehand)
  • Leashes and collars
  • Two-week supply of food (moist or canned) with manual can opener. Dry pet food is fine, but ensure you have extra bottles of water on hand since your pet will require more water with dry food with wet/moist food.
  • Two-week supply of bottled water (or more if using dry food).
  • Water and food dishes
  • Extra cat litter, litter pan and puppy training pads. Consider the fact that your dog may not be able to “potty” outside during or after a storm, so take the time to pre-plan a place in your home that may have to become his bathroom spot if the need arises. Line the area with newspapers or puppy training pads and clean the area as quickly as possible using a cleaning disinfectant.
  • Toys, blankets and treats
  • Emergency phone numbers for veterinarian, animal shelters and friends/relatives
  • Veterinary clinic address and phone number
  • Veterinary records with rabies certificate and current Broward County Pet Registration Tag number (put these documents in a plastic “Baggie” so they do not get wet.
  • Medications with instructions (ensure you have enough medication on hand before the storm hits as vet offices may be closed and mail will not be delivered)
  • Cleaning supplies (newspaper, plastic bags with ties, paper towels, disinfectant)
