Cat Groomer thoughts on Toys for Cats

Cat Toys use movement, sound, smell and shape to arouse a cat’s predatory nature. After all, cats stalk, chase, pounce, bat, bite and eat prey. Just as they do when playing.

Types of Toys on cats basic instincts:  Sight & sound, cats are attracted not just to motion but also to noise and light. Toys based on these sensitivities range from plastic balls with jingling bells inside to laser pens and animal videos.

Stalking & Swatting, Cats love the hunt, toys that are geared to stalking instincts combine natural materials with features or shapes mimicking prey, such as the furry mouse or feathery snake. A related feline hunting behavior is to bath or throw the prey around. Easier with small, lightweight toys or with dangling toy such as feather teasers and fishing wands.

Chasing & Pouncing, Toys that rock, roll or race initiate the predatory chase, balls, track toys and battery operated toys exploit this feline proclivity to run down prey.  Interactive toys also imitate the erratic movements of prey, enticing the cat to attack.

Just something to think about when buying your cat of any age.
